Endless Bridge by Mikhail Mishin

A visual retelling of creation, Mikhail Mishin’s Endless Bridge utilizes juxtapositions and stark comparisons in a narrative that spans from birth to death and back again. iPhone photos, newspaper clippings and other found materials are the vocabulary used in this book in which light is separated from dark, and order emerges from chaos, only to revert back into nothingness. Images in this book have the quality of archaeological artifacts, where the transient qualities of an inflated tarp, a light reflection on the pavement or footprint in the concrete are highlighted. We know what comes after, we see what came before. Yet these fleeting moments hold great weight in the larger context of this cycle. 

Mikhail Mishin (b. 1981, Essentuki, Russia) is a Brooklyn based artist.  He is interested in the idea of presence and absence of thought and in the phenomena of ‘idea’ as a moment of realization. He finds his inspiration from everyday life and employs mediums available at hand. Currently he focuses on photography, collage, and art books. He believes that a brief encounter with absence, emptiness, or silence lets us glance at what is beyond the intangible walls of our thinking mind and connects us together. Mishin studied graphic design in Russia and received BFA in sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design.

This image contains this moment and all moments, past and future, all the wisdom and life. The subject instantly recognizable, yet unfathomably distant. This essential icon of Apollo 17's "Blue Marble" is not reality though. What is clearly shown is that this is only a representation of all that we know and hold true. What represents our existence has been physically removed from its surroundings. Its artificiality is more apparent when contrasted with the physical proof of a hand that modified the picture.  The picture that represents the reality it exists within.
